Spring Will Come

Dmitry Krasny

Have you ever noticed how shifting light, a different vantage point, or even your mood could alter your perception of the world in unexpected and fundamental ways?

In my photography, I explore these changes with subject matter ranging from a fleeting shadow, a geometric architectural composition, a dynamic reflection, or a lost lone object, to maybe an indescribable, visceral feeling of a particular place.

I experiment with light, color, pattern, and perspective, often finding an expressionist or an abstract composition emerging from a seemingly mundane setting. I am interested in layering multiple images to create new compositions that evoke a mood or a memory of a specific place, sometimes recognizable, sometimes mysterious, that are about discovering something new or surprising. I create fine art through photographic techniques, both digital and film, as well as painting and printmaking.

I emigrated to the United States from Kiev, Ukraine, and have been living in New York City for most of my adult life. I work as an Experience Architect and strategist focused on human-centered design. I was the Founder and Creative Director of Deka Design, a visual communications firm with clients ranging from world-class art museums to Fortune 100 companies. I earned a BA from The Cooper Union, an MFA from Yale University, and completed post-graduate studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. I currently teach typography and design at Parsons School of Design and previously served as Chair of Communication Design Department of Kanazawa International Design Institute (KIDI), Japan and taught information design at Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, China.
